Former Castle Douglas High School pupil receives top award from City of Glasgow College

A former Castle Douglas High School pupil has received a prestigious academic award from the City of Glasgow College.

Margaret Lock, who now lives in Newton Stewart, was awarded the Principal’s Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement in recognition of everything that she had accomplished throughout her studies.

The 57-year-old was one of more than 3,000 students graduating as class of 2020 from Scotland’s flagship college.

The annual winter graduation was held online on Monday, November 23, and featured a special message by Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

She said, “Getting to this stage in these circumstances, in any circumstances is a fantastic achievement and you should be very, very proud.

“Well done to each and every one of you.

“I wish all of you all the best for the future.”

Margaret, who graduated with a PDA Teaching Practice in Scotland’s Colleges, said: “It was a big surprise to hear I had won an award.

“I have learned a great deal during my studies at City of Glasgow College and I am delighted to have all the effort I put into my course work over the last two years recognised in such a way.

“I have hugely enjoyed all my experiences at the college.

“This is a great way to end my time here and I’d like to thank everyone for their time and support.”

Paul Little, principal and chief executive at City of Glasgow College, added: “Margaret should be very proud of all her accomplishments and should hold her head high as a City of Glasgow College graduate”.
