Former Cardinals RB Jason Wright makes history as new Washington Football Team president

The Washington Football Team has a new team president and has made history. The team named Jason Wright, a former Arizona Cardinals running back, to the position, making him the NFL’s first-ever Black team president. He also is only the fourth former player to reach the position.

Wright was a special teams standout for the Cardinals in 2009 and 2010, the final two seasons of his NFL career. He retired in 2011 to go to business school.

He replaces Bruce Allen, who was fired at the end of 2019, and takes over a franchise in transition and mired in controversy. The team dropped its longtime name “Redskins” after decades of criticism. The team also has had to deal with a reported sexual harassment and misconduct.

Wright has his work cut out for him but he is up for the challenge. He was a well-respected player and a leader these two seasons he played for the Cardinals.
