Former Cardinals QB Josh Rosen signs with Falcons, his 5th team in 4 seasons

Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen, whom the team drafted 10th overall in 2018, is on the move again. He was cut by the San Francisco 49ers last week.

But he gets another shot. He has signed with the Atlanta Falcons, who lost backup quarterback A.J. McCarron for the season when he tore his ACL last week.

Rosen struggled his rookie season with the Cardinals, going 3-10 as starter, completing 55.2% of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

The Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray first overall the next year and traded Rosen to the Miami Dolphins, who then drafted quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in 2020. He was cut by Miami and has spent time on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the roster of the San Francisco 49ers.

San Franciso drafted Trey Lance third overall this year.

Rosen will get to play extensively in the Falcons’ preseason finale.

He hasn’t managed to stick in any place he has landed thus far. Hopefully, this is the spot it works out. Starting quarterback Matt Ryan is 36 years old. Rosen could develop and get his shot once Ryan decides to retire, or it could happen again that the team he is on drafts a quarterback in the top five.
