Former Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson retires after two decades in NFL

Kicker Phil Dawson, who spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, is retiring from the NFL after 20 NFL seasons, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 44-year-old Dawson finished last season on injured reserve and was not re-signed after his contract expired.

Dawson, one of the most consistent kickers in league history, will make an official announcement at a press conference in Cleveland, according to Pro Football Talk. Dawson played his first 14 seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

As a member of the Cardinals, he was 37-of-48 on field goals and 38-of-41 on extra points. His 32 made field goals in 2017 were the second-most in team history in a season.

Dawson was the second-oldest player in the league a year ago, behind only Adam Vinatieri of the Colts. He finishes his career with 441 field goals, good for eighth all time.
