The Buffalo Bills were eliminated from the postseason on Saturday with a 22-19 overtime loss to the Houston Texans. With the loss, it ended the career of linebacker Lorenzo Alexander, who spent two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.
Alexander announced after the game he was calling it quits. He is retiring after 15 NFL seasons.
“I’m done,” he told reporters after the game. “I made the decision a while ago, so I’m at peace with it. It;s more about choosing my family than not choosing football. I’ve played 15 years, no regrets at all.”
He is 36 years old and wants to be an active father. He is healthy and knows the longer he plays, the more likely he will get hurt and make it more difficult to be active for his children.
Alexander entered the league as an undrafted rookie and played many positions — fullback, offensive line, defensive line and tight end before finding a home at outside linebacker.
He was a two-time Pro Bowler as a special teamer and is one of the most respected players in all of football.
In his two years with the Cardinals, in 2013-2014, had one sack and 17 total tackles. He was a starter in 2013 and suffered a foot injury that ended his season. He was mainly a special teamer in 2014.
He surely has opportunities in the media coming. He has been heard as a fill-in host on the radio here locally.
