Former Cardiff City star slams 'shambolic' defending in Swansea City defeat

Former Cardiff City defender James Collins has hit out at the defending that cost the Bluebirds a 1-0 defeat to fierce rivals Swansea City in the South Wales derby.

On loan Watford man Ben Wilmot scored the only goal on 27 minutes as he ghosted into the box to head home after some static Cardiff defending.

Collins, who came through at Cardiff, was pundit on Sky Sports' coverage of the game and he used the opportunity to criticise the defending for the Swans' winning goal.

He said: "The defending from Cardiff is nothing short of shambolic. There's no-one within four or five yards of him in the middle of the six-yard box.

"At this level and with a team like Cardiff, who are looking to get promoted, it can't happen."

It wasn't the only time where Cardiff handed chances to Swansea in the penalty areas from set-pieces and the former Wales international admitted that it wasn't something he associates with teams managed by Neil Warnock.

Collins added: "You wouldn't expect the defending we've seen today from a Neil Warnock side. I think Swansea can't believe their luck that they have scored from a set-piece.

"At this level one set-piece can decide a match as we've seen today."
