Former Cardiff Blues favourite scores the luckiest try of the weekend on international duty

A former fan favourite at the Cardiff Arms Park was the beneficiary of some remarkable luck on Saturday.

Blaine Scully, who left the Cardiff Blues at the end of last season, was captaining the United States in their Pacific Nations Cup match against Canada.

The winger scored the second try of his side's convincing 47-19 win over Kingsley Jones' side and he might be counting his lucky stars.

Full-back Will Hooley chipped over the top in the 23rd minute for Scully to chase towards the corner.

It appeared as though Hooley had over-cooked the kick as it headed for the touchline but, with a fair bit of luck, it struck the corner flag.

The ball then cannoned back inside Canada winger, and former Scarlets ace, DTH van der Merwe.

It then took some good skill from Scully to pluck the ball out of the air before it bounced, which would have sent it over the dead ball line.

In the same game, former Ospreys flanker Tyler Ardron scored a cracking try, intercepting a pass on his own 22 before galloping 80 metres to score.
