Are Selena Gomez and former Chicago Bulls All-Star Jimmy Butler the entertainment world’s hottest new couple?
If you define a “couple” as a pair that has been on a few casual dates, then yes.
A source close to the pop star told E! News that Gomez has hung out with Butler “a few times.”
Rumors began to swirl after a sighting of the pair dining together fueled speculation on social media. Gomez, 28, whose dating life often makes headlines, (notable exes include Justin Bieber and The Weeknd) reportedly spent time with the 31-year-old Miami Heat star in New York City, where she has been filming the upcoming Hulu show “Only Murders in the Building.”
“Jimmy asked her to go to dinner and they had a great time,” the source told E! “It’s very casual and she’s open to seeing where things go, but isn’t settling down just yet.”
Unlike Gomez, Butler’s romantic life has stayed mostly out of the spotlight, minus his brief public feud with former teammate Dwyane Wade over a flirtatious comment Butler posted on a risqué Instagram photo of Wade’s wife, actress Gabrielle Union.
Butler was with the Bulls from 2011-2017 before Chicago traded the versatile, two-way player to the Minnesota Timberwolves during in the 2017 offseason, looking to accelerate a rebuild that the team is still working on.
The All-Star swingman helped lead the Miami Heat to the NBA Finals this past season in the Orlando bubble. In 20 post season games Butler averaged 22.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and posted a triple double in NBA Finals games 3 and 5.
Earlier this year, he teased a possible return to the team, saying Chicago is “still is home for me.”
“It’s a definite possibility — maybe toward the end of my career.”
