Former Buckeye basketball player Daniel Giddens to transfer to Vermont

We began to wonder where this story went. Shortly after Jaedon LeDee entered the now infamous transfer portal, the Ohio State coaches seemed to be in scramble mode to find another big man to back up Kaleb Wesson down on the blocks. Especially seeing how Micah Potter transferred away from the program just prior to the start of the 2018-19 season.

There were rumors of late blooming, seven-foot Ibrahima Diallo getting close to choosing the Buckeyes, but then Wesson threw a wrench into things by making his name eligible for the upcoming NBA Draft. We still think he’ll be back in a Buckeye uniform next season, but still — the depth down low on the basketball team rivaled the quarterback depth on the football team.

That’s where former Ohio State big man Daniel Giddens entered the fray. He played a season in Columbus, then was one of many That Matta misfits that transferred out of the program a few years back. He went to Alabama, and that was that.

Until it wasn’t.

Rumors began circulating — and were later confirmed — that Giddens was interested in coming back to the Ohio State program under Chris Holtmann as a graduate transfer for the upcoming season. Need — meet opportunity. Then the Buckeyes indeed landed Diallo, and all has been quiet on the Giddens front.

But no longer. According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, Giddens has chosen to go to the land of ski slopes and cheddar. Yes, the 6-11, 247 lb. center will be doing his work at the University of Vermont.

That should put to rest some of the rumors out there, but you still have to wonder of the Buckeyes will look to add more depth in the front court before it’s all said and done.

We’d just love to know what kind of conversations and decisions were made to have Giddens choose Vermont over a chance to play at a Big Ten school.
