Former Browns OG Kevin Zeitler released by the Giants

Former Cleveland Browns right guard Kevin Zeitler is now a free agent, albeit unexpectedly. The New York Giants released the veteran guard on Wednesday in a salary cap-related move.

Zeitler played in Cleveland in the 2017 and 2018 seasons before being traded to New York in the Olivier Vernon deal. The Browns signed Zeitler to a five-year, $60 million free agent contract in 2017, making Zeitler the highest-paid guard in the NFL at the time.

That contract proved an albatross for the Giants. The team saves $12 million in cap room by dumping Zeitler, who has played well in New York.

The Browns are not expected to have any interest in a reunion, not with Wyatt Teller ensconced at his old position.
