Former Brookside actor Kris Mochrie playing Emmerdale rapist was jailed for supplying date rape drug GHB

Former Brookside actor Kris Mochrie, who is playing rapist Lee in Emmerdale was jailed for supplying GHB, known as a 'date rape drug'.

Kris was convicted in 2009 and jailed for two years at Hull Crown Court  after pleading guilty to supplying the Class C drug.

In a candid interview with the ECHO the following year he said he had no idea that GHB was known as a date rape drug.

Kris was also convicted for perverting the course of justice after initially lying to police by claiming two girls had spiked drinks that night, but later confessed to the crime that led to his friend collapsing in a Hull nightclub.

Hours later, in the same nightclub, a 21-year-old woman collapsed and died in an unrelated case, Hull Live reports.

Judge Jeremy Richardson, QC, said at the time: “What happened last September was terrible. There you were in the nightclub with your associate who you supplied GHB, a Class C drug.

“He knew what he was taking. That particular drug has a number of dangerous side effects.

“He became extremely ill as a result of the harmful effects. If ever there was a case that demonstrated the dangerousness of that particular drug, this was it.”

After serving six months of his two-year sentence, Kris was welcomed back into the acting industry, featuring on stage and getting TV roles in Coronation Street, The League of Gentleman and Ordinary Lies over the years.

Speaking to the the ECHO in 2010, Kris said: “I know that every part I get now, everything will be brought up again. Every time someone looks me up on the internet, or asks me to fill out a form and tick the box for criminal record, it will be there. But it’s a part of my life I can’t change.

“I never intended to commit a crime, I haven’t got a criminal bone in my body, I really haven’t. I made a mistake and it all just unravelled. It was the worst six months of my life and it lost me a lot, but it’s gained me so much. I’ve always been grateful for my family, for everything, but now even more.”

Kris appeared in tonight's [Wednesday, May 8] episode of Emmerdale in distressing scenes as Victoria Barton, played by Isabel Hodgins, told Moira how she was raped.
