Former British Caledonian boss to chair transport group

Clare Hollingsworth, the former chairman of Eurostar and managing director of Scottish-based British Caledonian, has been appointed chairman of Go-Ahead Group from 1 August 2019.

Hollingsworth played a leading role in the airline industry in the 1990s, when she was also with British Airways. She will succeed Andrew Allner who is retiring as non-executive chairman following the company's AGM.

Allner joined Go-Ahead's Board as a non-executive Director in October 2008 and was appointed as chairman in April 2013.

Hollingsworth, 58, an American, has been chairman of Eurostar International since July 2013, having first joined the board as a non-executive director in 2010, and leaves the business at the end of June.

She is also a non-executive director of UK Government Investments and Molnlycke AB, and senior independent director at The LTA. She was previously a non-executive director with Savills and Assura, both property businesses, as well as Virgin Healthcare and Ambea.

Prior to this, Hollingsworth was CEO of Spire Healthcare and its predecessor business, BUPA Hospitals, and Managing Director of Caledonian Airways from 1990 to 1997. She also serves as a Member of Public Services Strategy Board of CBI and Healthcare Panel.
