Former Bristol undertakers to reopen as organic food shop and café

Better Food is set to open its fourth store in Bristol, creating up to 20 new jobs.

It will open on Gloucester Road at the corner of Radnor Road, in the building which was formerly occupied by Co-op Funeralcare.

Like Better Food's other three stores, the new shop will specialise in local organic produce and will also have a café or deli.

The refurbishment of the new outlet has already begun, and it is expected to be open by autumn.

Better Food's other stores are in St Werburghs, Clifton and Wapping Wharf.

A spokesperson for the company said: "We’re very excited to join the thriving community of independent businesses on Gloucester Road and to offer our selection of organic, local and ethical food, health, bodycare and household essentials to the community.

"We hope to complement the fantastic variety of produce available in the area and to strengthen what is already one of the best areas to shop in the UK."

Better Food was started in Bristol in 1992, when founder and owner Phil Haughton set up an organic food delivery scheme from his kitchen in St Werburghs.

The company has gone on to win several awards, including best organic independent retailer at the 2021 Soil Association BOOM Awards.
