Former Bristol Rovers striker joins League One rivals after Borussia Dortmund move collapses

Plymouth Argyle have announced the loan signing of former Bristol Rovers striker Timmy Abraham.

The 19-year-old joined the Gas on loan from Fulham in January and made four appearances before the season was curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Argyle boss Ryan Lowe has moved on EFL deadline day to sign the forward, brother of Chelsea and England international Tammy Abraham, until January following interest from Germany.

Reports from the continent claimed Abraham was on the verge of completing a loan move to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on October 5 – international deadline day.

The transfer would have had a £2million option to buy next summer, with Abraham being lined up to play for BVB's under-23s before being promoted to the first team, all being well.

But that move, which was fully agreed in principle according to Transfermarkt, was blocked because necessary documents were not submitted by the Cottagers on time.

As a result, Abraham has been sent for his second League One loan stint after seeing just 75 minutes of action for the Gas across four substitute appearances without a goal.

Rovers face Argyle at the Mem on December 12.
