Former Bristol Rovers loanee discusses 'hard' six years of loan spells after permanent Dundee move

Former Bristol Rovers loanee Alex Jakubiak has discussed the difficulty of successive loan spells after finally finding a permanent home.

The striker made 44 appearances for the Gas during a season-long loan spell in 2018/19 and was being touted for a second spell at the Mem from parent club Watford.

Then Gas manager Graham Coughlan was keen to bring him back to the club and Rovers were in negotiations, but the striker turned down a move back and he spent the last season at Gillingham and St Mirren.

At the time, Coughlan said: "I'd take Alex back all day long. As I said previously we've asked, we've enquired.

"The likelihood is, as the educated football people will tell you, a club allowing a player to go back to a club for a second loan, the law of averages tells you that's very unlikely."

Jakubiak has has loan spells at Braintree, Oxford United, Dagenham and Redbridge, Fleetwood Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Falkirk, Rovers, the Gills and St Mirren but has finally found a permanent home, signing for Dundee FC on a two-year deal.

He made just one senior appearance for Watford at 17 years old and has discussed the difficulty of being sent on nine loan spells in six years.

He told the club website: “I think it’s somewhere I can come and enjoy myself. After being on loan so many times this is my first permanent club after Watford and a good opportunity for me to stamp my mark down.

“It’s always hard when you are on loan. As much as you want to do well for yourself and the club that you are at, there is always that bit in your mind that ‘I am going back in six months or I’m going back at the end of the season.’

"I think without that playing on my mind it makes it that bit easier to get down and focus because I’m going to be here for the long haul."

Jakubiak scored five goals during his time at the Mem and set up three more.
