Former Bristol Rovers forward Tom Nichols to join League Two side Crawley Town

Tom Nichols is on the verge of being announced as a Crawley Town player, Bristol Live understands.

The 27-year-old is a free agent after being released by Bristol Rovers this summer, and he will join up with former Gas players Sam Matthews and Tony Craig at the Broadfield Stadium.

Nichols spent the second half of last season on loan with League Two Cheltenham Town, and the Robins were reportedly interested in signing the former Exeter City forward again.

He also had interest from Macclesfield Town and a trial at Swindon Town this summer, but Nichols will join John Yems' Red Devils five days before the start of the League Two campaign.

Nichols joined Rovers in 2017 from Peterborough United, and scored nine goals in 115 appearances for the Gas before boss Ben Garner told him he was not in his plans and he moved to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium in January.

The forward is closing in on 400 career appearances, and could be unveiled as a Crawley player as early as today.
