Former Bristol Rovers defender still without a club after training with Charlton Athletic

Former Bristol Rovers defender Tareiq Holmes-Dennis is still without a club after a stint training with Charlton Athletic.

The left-back was released by the club this summer after two injury-hit years at the Mem and while the talent is obviously there, he is yet to link up with another club.

Holmes-Dennis was not included in the club's retained list back in June and was released alongside Liam Sercombe and Tony Craig, with the latter two recently joining up with Cheltenham Town and Crawley respectively.

South London Press sport editor Richard Cawley has reported that THD was training with Charlton, even playing in a friendly against Birmingham City on the weekend, but that he is no longer training with the Addicks and is still looking for a new home.

He tweeted to say: "Tareiq Holmes-Dennis no longer training with Charlton. Had played in the friendly against Birmingham at the weekend."

The former Huddersfield Town and Plymouth Argyle defender started his career at the Valley, but currently looks to be edging away from a return with the club still embroiled in ownership controversy and financial uncertainty following their relegation from the Championship.

Add to that the fact that, due to the newly approved salary caps in League One, Holmes-Dennis would likely have to take a paycut to remain in League One, he could even look elsewhere abroad for a new challenge.

He struggled with recurring injury problems during his time at the Mem, making just 30 appearances in all competitions across the two seasons he was at the club.

Constant knee troubles meant boss Ben Garner told him he could leave at the end of the season and instead handed a contract extension to Michael Kelly, with new signing Sam Nicholson also playing at left wing-back during pre-season.
