Former Bristol Rovers coach Clint Hill leaves Hartlepool United for new club after just 41 days

Former Bristol Rovers assistant manager Clint Hill is on to his third coaching job of the season after leaving Hartlepool United.

Hill, who made a surprise exit from the Mem in August for "personal family reasons" before joining Dave Challinor's coaching staff at Victoria Park in October, has swapped North East for North West.

The 43-year-old has followed Challinor out of the door after his former Tranmere Rovers teammate was named manager of big-spending, promotion-chasing National League side Stockport County.

Hill's spell at Hartlepool lasted just 41 days, leaving the club on Friday and he was named Stockport assistant manager within 24 hours of his exit from Victoria Park.

The Stockport job is much closer to Hill's family home.

‘’I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my short time at Hartlepool United working with a great set of lads and staff, and also getting to experience the famous atmosphere at the Vic," Hill said.

"I wish everybody connected to the club every success this season and for the future.’’

Hartlepool caretaker manager Tony Sweeney added: "Clint has been nothing but brilliant since he came into the club. He obviously joined us at an unusual time following the sudden departure of Joe Parkinson but he’s been really good to me and the whole squad.

"He has been a great help since I took interim charge and we wish him all the best going forward.’"

Hill was a key member of Joey Barton's coaching staff when the Rovers boss was appointed in February and the former Queens Park Rangers defender took charge of the Gas for a period in July when Barton took a brief leave of absence.

But Hill left the club a fortnight later. Barton said at the time: "Clint had a family issue before the Mansfield game and asked for some time off. Subsequently, after that time off, he has decided he can no longer continue. He’s got to go.

"It’s tough when you lose good characters and good people like Clint. It leaves you a bit short in the coaching department, and when it rains, it pours.

"The main thing is that Clint’s family is safe and secure and everything’s good there, and we have to respect that."
