Former Bristol Rovers, Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers and Exeter City target Jack Grimmer on trial with League One rivals

Former Bristol Rovers transfer target Jack Grimmer is on trial at League One side Wycombe Wanderers according to the latest as he looks to secure a club ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Grimmer was released by Coventry City manager Mark Robins earlier this summer.

The 25-year-old was born in Aberdeen and came through the youth system at his hometown club before a move to Fulham in 2012, followed up by two years at Coventry following his release from the Cottagers.

Now a free agent, this summer he has been linked with Blackpool, Bolton Wanderers and Exeter City as well as Rovers.

But it is Wycombe Wanderers who now look to be winning the race to land the full back, with Grimmer featuring in a 3-2 pre-season friendly win over Woking last night.

Grimmer was one of a remarkable 11 triallists in action for the Chairboys last night but will have caught manager Gareth Ainsworth's eye after providing a 15th minute assist for the opening goal.

He played just over an hour before being substituted as Ainsworth rang the changes.

The Gas have seen several departures at the back with club captain Tom Lockyer joining Charlton Athletic, James Clarke and utility man Stuart Sinclair moving to Walsall, Joe Partington returning to Eastleigh and Daniel Leadbitter making the short journey to Newport County.

However Pirates boss Graham Coughlan has wasted little time restocking his squad and Rovers are becoming increasingly well resourced at the back after signing Tom Davies from Coventry, Mark Little from Bolton, Luke Leahy from Walsall and Josh Hare from Eastleigh, and they are still be linked with a move for UCD defender Liam Scales, who is more of a centre back.
