Former Bristol hair salon in St George transformed into Italian deli

A former hair salon in St George has been transformed into a new deli serving the finest produce from Italian and local suppliers.

Eve Anning has launched Poco Deli in place of Natalie Hairdresser Studio on Church Road, having spent six years as head chef at The Mall Deli in Clifton.

With the help of partner Rob Britton, the 28-year-old has been trading for two weeks in her new shop, which is laden with Italian charcuterie, cheeses from Chew Valley Smokehouse, pastries and much more.

Coffee is supplied by top Bristol roasters Lost Horizon while visitors can also find artworks supplied by ARTHOUSE, a charity which showcases the talents and skills of adults with learning and physical difficulties.

Eve said the St George community has welcomed Poco Deli with open arms.

"The amount of support we've received since opening has been quite overwhelming to be honest," she said.

"We've lived in St George for two years so we were already aware of the community spirit here, but since opening we've met so many amazing people from all walks of life and some people are already coming in daily."

Eve and Rob - who runs well-known events brand Alternate - had hoped to take a food van to festivals across the UK this summer before launching their own bricks and mortar site.

Like many others they were forced to rethink due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Eve is not too bothered about the change of plan.

"The future is so uncertain and the events industry is obviously in tatters, so we decided to do something a little closer to home and something more stable," she added.

"We're really excited to be up and running on Church Road and it's such a privilege to have this kind of opportunity.

"It's obviously a strange time to open a new business but we're so glad we went for it."

Poco Deli is located at 282 Church Rd, Bristol BS5 8AH. More information can be found on its Facebook page.
