Former Bristol City target signs new contract at Derby County

Kelle Roos' play-off final error hasn't cost him his Derby County future after the Championship club confirmed the Dutch goalkeeper has agreed a new deal until 2022.

Roos, whose contract was due to expire at the end of this month, was at fault for Aston Villa's second goal at Wembley last month as the Rams lost 2-1 and missed out on a place in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old, who made 23 appearances on loan at Bristol Rovers in the 2016/17 League One season, was linked by Sky Sports to Bristol City in April and Bristol Live understands that interest was genuine as Lee Johnson searches for a third goalkeeping option.

City have Niki Maenpaa and Max O'Leary but Johnson is keen for another option in the position after the club were caught cold following injuries to Maenpaa and Frank Fielding in March. How seriously the club actively pursued Roos is unclear.

But the goalkeeper, who started 22 of Derby's 25 matches from January and also had admirers at Hull City and Stoke City, as a potential replacement for Premier League-bound Jack Butland, is remaining a Ram.

Derby confirmed their retained list on Monday with five players released from the club, including veterans Ashley Cole and David Nugent, with midfielder Craig Bryson in talks over a new contract offer.

Derby's released list: Efe Ambrose, Alex Pearce, Ashley Cole, David Nugent, Marcus Olsson
