Former Bristol City striker denies feigning injury to force through move to Leeds United or Nottingham Forest

Cauley Woodrow's loan spell at Bristol City may not be too fondly remembered by Robins' fans but since departing Ashton Gate he has been rebuilding his reputation at Barnsley.

Woodrow has scored 28 goals in 57 games since signing as a full-time Tyke and his performances have, according to a report in the Mirror earlier this month, attracted the interest of a number of fellow Championship clubs including Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

Bristol Live understands the Robins aren't interested in bringing the 25-year-old back to BS3, especially not at his reported valuation with the same article claiming Barnsley want £7m for the frontman.

Leeds and Forest are, of course, also in need of a striker but it's unclear if either of those Championship heavyweights are willing to spend such a huge transfer fee on someone who will likely be a back-up to Patrick Bamford or Lewis Grabban, respectively.

However, since rumours of interest have emerged, Woodrow has played just once in January for Barnsley, missing four of their last five matches with an unidentified injury, which has fuelled speculation he's angling for a move.

That absence also included last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Ashton Gate but Woodrow did return to Gerhard Struber's squad in midweek, coming off the bench on 54 minutes for the 3-0 loss against Preston North End.

Woodrow has vehemently denied any accusation he's feigning injury and reiterated his commitment to Barnsley.

"While I am a Barnsley player, my focus is completely and solely on Barnsley, so I have not had a thought of wanting to leave," Woodrow told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"My injury was an injury and it wasn’t me pretending to be injured in terms of wanting a move. It was literally just an injury and I am focused on helping this team and club stay in this division.

"Tuesday was just a blip and I think every team has those games. I am 100 per cent positive it won’t happen at the weekend."

Woodrow scored two goals in 15 matches while on loan at City from Fulham in the 2017/18 season. He did find the net against his former team this season, claiming a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Oakwell in November.
