Former Bristol City striker Aaron Wilbraham joins Steve Cotterill at Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town have confirmed that former Bristol City striker Aaron Wilbraham has joined their coaching staff.

'Alby' has been named as Steve Cotterill’s Assistant Manager and the announcement reunites the two integral winning members of the Robins' 2014/15 EFL Trophy and League One title-winning season.

And Cotterill explained to the official Shrews website just what the former Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Hull City and Bolton Wanderers striker will bring to the League One side.

Wilbraham is fondly remembered at Ashton Gate by the club and fans alike, having netted 30 goals in the league for City, from 2014-17 and helping the West Country outfit achieve promotion to the English second tier.

"Aaron is a fantastic professional and he’s a great lad. He’s had a fantastic career and he played for me at Bristol City. He was tremendous in the dressing room and was very popular," Cotterill explained.

"He was doing his coaching badges back then so there was always going to be a progression when he finished playing.

"I felt it was a great time to give Aaron his first opportunity.

"He’s a brilliant lad and he’ll be extremely popular in and around the place. I’m sure he’s going to be a great addition to our staff.”

Meanwhile, Cotterill's start at his new club has begun well, with a late 1-0 win in the FA Cup Second Round against Oxford City last Sunday.

The Shropshire-based team now face Accrington Stanley at home on Wednesday evening in Cotterill's first league game in charge.
