Former Bristol City star Aden Flint in Cardiff for medical ahead of Bluebirds switch

Former Bristol City favourite Aden Flint is on the verge of swapping Middlesbrough  for Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Bristol Live understand it is essentially a done deal with the towering centre half currently in the Welsh captain ahead of a medical with Cardiff today.

Cardiff are reported to be paying an initial fee of around £4m, which could rise to £6m with add-on clauses.

The defender joined Boro from Bristol City last summer for a price of around £7m, and signed a four-year deal on Teeside. But that is set to be cut short.

Flint is an iconic figure among  Robins  fans after scoring 37 goals from defence in 209 appearances during a five-year spell at Ashton Gate between 2013 and 2018.

He was a regular under Tony Pulis at Boro making 39 Championship starts, but Flint failed to recapture his City form at the Riverside, being criticised by some Boro fans after they missed out on the play-offs last season.

New manager Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate is now overhauling the squad he inherited from Pulis.

And Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock is keen to add height to his defence and feels the 6ft 6in Flint would fit the bill.

It would be a move that would catch the eyes of Robins fans, seeing one of their former favourite players move to their Severnside rivals.

The deal would also reunite Flint with Bobby Reid, who moved from the Robins to the Welsh capital last summer.
