Former Bristol City player praises Bristol Rovers for securing deal for teammate

Former Bristol City and Bolton Wanderers midfielder Gary O'Neil said he is "buzzing" for his former teammate Mark Little to have got a move to League One side Bristol Rovers.

It was announced earlier today that the Gas have signed former Robins defender Little following the expiry of his contract at newly-relegated  Bolton Wanderers .

Bolton have dropped down from the Championship to join Rovers in the third tier of English football.

The 30-year-old right-back made 100 appearances during two years at  Ashton Gate  and was man of the match as the Robins won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2015 before claiming the League One title and promotion to the  Championship  the same season. Little left City for Bolton in 2017.

Little becomes Graham Coughlan's first signing of the summer and provides another versatile option at the back after the departure of James Clarke to Walsall last week.

Despite having one of the best defences in League One last season Rovers are having to rebuild their backline following the departures of Clarke and club captain Tom Lockyer, with both men on the Pirates' shortlist for player of the season.

Injury-hit right back Daniel Leadbitter was also released by the club this summer and has yet to sign for a new club.

Rovers are currently in negotiations to agree a new deal with Joe Partington, who can play right back or at centre back, and have been strongly linked with a move for Coventry City right back Jack Grimmer, who was released by the Sky Blues this summer.

Midfielder O'Neil, who played with Little at both City and Wanderers, certainly believes Rovers have got off to a strong start in the transfer window by signing his former team mate.
