Former Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Sunderland managers in the running to replace Nigel Adkins as Hull City boss

Former Bristol City manager and Bristol Rovers player Tony Pulis is among the early contenders to land the freshly vacant Hull City manager’s job.

The Robins' Championship rivals are on the hunt for a new manager after Nigel Adkins announced he would be leaving the club when his contract expires on June 30.

His assistant, Andy Crosby, is also set to depart the KCOM Stadium after contract talks stalled and Adkins decided their futures are “not aligned”.

Adkins took over the job after the sacking of Leonid Slutsky in December 2017 and signed an 18-month contract.

In a statement on the club website Adkins said: "I’d like to thank all the staff and players, and in particular Andy Crosby, my assistant, for the hard work, camaraderie, togetherness and support they have shown me and wish them all good luck with their future careers. The unity the supporters have shown with the staff and players has also been very special. The fantastic relationship I have had with the fans makes leaving extremely difficult. I will take with me very special memories from the past 18 months.”

Despite the news of Adkin's departure only breaking this morning bookmakers have already had their say on who the leading contenders are.

Pulis, who started his playing carear at Bristol Rovers and managed City for a short stint in 1999-2000.

Former Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is the early favourite at odds of 3/1.

Former West Brom boss Darren Moore (6/1) also features high in the odds.

Former Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka (9/1) and Tony Pulis (12/1) are both thought to be in with a shout of the job as they seek a new challenge.
