Former Bristol City midfielder returns to Ashton Gate after seven-year absence

A former Bristol City man has returned to the club after a seven-year absence.

Kalifa Cisse is back at Ashton Gate having joined Lee Johnson's backroom staff.

The versatile Malian spent two seasons with the Robins between 2010 and 2012 where he played alongside the current manager, operating at centre-back and in defensive midfield.

He has signed a short-term deal back at the club and will work "across recruitment and the first team" according to an official statement.

The 35-year-old retired last year following a career that spanned France, Portugal, the USA, Thailand and Australia, as well as Derby County, Reading and Bristol City in the Championship.

He hung up his boots after a spell with Central Coast Mariners in the A-League.

Cisse is something of a linguist, speaking five languages, so getting his message across to the Bristol City squad should be no problem for him.
