Former Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday striker Leroy Lita joins 18th club of his career

Leroy Lita has found the 18th club of his career.

The former Bristol City striker, now aged 35, has agreed to play for non-league Nuneaton Borough next season in the Southern Football League Premier Central division - the seventh tier in English football.

Lita came through the youth ranks at City and scored 31 goals in 85 appearances before joining Reading in 2005, going on to play for the likes of Middlesbrough, Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday in a long career.

After last playing for Chelmsford City in the National League South, Lita has now agreed to play for Nuneaton after relocating to the midlands.

Nuneaton boss Jimmy Ginnelly told Coventry Live: "His partner is from Nuneaton and they’ve recently moved into a house on The Longshoot, which is just five minutes from the ground, so this is a win-win situation for both parties.

"These sort of players don’t come onto Nuneaton's radar very often so we moved quickly and obviously all of us here at the Boro are very excited.

"Me and Leroy had a good old chat about football and life in general and we finally got to talking about him joining the club.

"The main thing that he seemed to understand was that this move wasn’t about money and it was a breath of fresh air to sit with a new signing that isn’t trying to hold the club to ransom for the most money he can get. He simply wants to give some of his footballing experience back to his local club.

"Hopefully he can give the players and our fantastic supporters the benefit of his England U21 and Premiership skills."

Nuneaton will be hopeful of keeping Lita for longer than the striker has stayed at his most recent clubs.

The Zaire-born forward stayed with Margate and Salisbury for just three games apiece before his most recent 11-game stint at Chelmsford.

His time at the Robins remains the most prolific spell of his career.
