Former Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill out of hospital and recovering at home

Steve Cotterill has left hospital and is back home with his wife in Bristol after being discharged from BRI, where he was being treated for Covid-pneumonia.

The former Bristol City manager, from 2013-2016, is now hopefully on the road to a full recovery following his battle with the virus.

Cotterill is reported as having spent a total of 49 days this year bed-bound in hospital. The Shrewsbury Town manager spent some time communicating with his squad from the BRI, before leaving hospital initially - only to then have to return as the club announced that he was still suffering with Covid-19.

A statement from his club last month read that: "Shrewsbury Town Football Club is disappointed to report Steve Cotterill has been re-admitted to the hospital. Following extensive treatment for Covid-19, Steve returned home from the hospital on February 16th.

“However, Town’s manager has returned to the hospital over the weekend as he is suffering from Covid-pneumonia. The club wishes Steve all the best in his recovery.”

The 56-year-old has endured a tough couple of months after being named as the League One manager of the month for December.

He has missed 13 games since first being admitted to hospital, with assistant manager and fellow former City double winner Aaron Wilbraham taking the reins in his place.

Wilbraham told the Shropshire Star of the longer term plans for the 2014/15 double-winning manager.

“You can’t look much further than that (being released from hospital) to be honest at the moment.

“He’s one of the strongest and toughest people I know, and I know he’ll get through this Covid-pneumonia.” the former City striker had previously said on Cotterill.

Shrewsbury Town are currently 17th in League One after drawing 1-1 at Charlton on Saturday.
