Former Bristol City man takes coaching job at Derby County under Phillip Cocu

Former Premier League defender Liam Rosenior is swapping the TV studio for the training pitch.

After ending his 17-year playing career last summer, Rosenior had established himself as one of the most knowledgeable pundits on Sky Sports coverage of the EFL during the 2018/19 season.

The 35-year-old has now been appointed as Specialist First Team Coach at Derby County as he joins Phillip Cocu's backroom staff.

He represented Bristol City, Fulham, Torquay United, Reading, Ipswich Town, Hull City and Brighton prior to hanging up his boots, as well as representing England at youth international level.

He now moves from job as Assistant Coach for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Under-23 side to Pride Park as he continues his coaching career.

A Derby statement read: “Rosenior’s position on the first-team staff will, as well as working with players on the training ground with a particular emphasis on individual development of emerging young talent, see him play a prominent role in pre-match opposition analysis with the scouting and analysis departments.

“He will also be well-placed to provide advice and guidance from his own playing career, the vast majority of which was played in the Premier League and Championship, to help manage the extensive number and scheduling challenges presented across the campaign."

Rosenior, the son of former footballer and manager Leroy Rosenior, made over 400 appearances in his playing career as a full-back.

He turned down the chance to join Middlesbrough’s backroom staff under Jonathan Woodgate last month.

And now he will face Bristol City in the Robins' next friendly on Saturday.
