Former Bristol City and West Bromwich Albion striker reveals surprising new career move

Peter Odemwingie has launched a new career as a professional golfer.

The former Bristol City striker, who made seven appearances for the Robins on loan from Stoke City in 2016, scoring two goals, announced his retirement from football earlier this year following a long career.

As well as the Robins and the Potters, he also played for the likes of West Brom, Cardiff City and Rotherham United.

Whilst he scored 30 Premier League goals for the Baggies, he is arguably most well-remembered for his failed attempts to force through a move to QPR on transfer deadline day in January 2013, when he was parked in Loftus Road car park.

Now, he has made another rather unexpected career move, posting on Instagram that he has become an official member of the PGA.

He also states that his amateur status has been relinquished, meaning he is now considered to be a professional golfer.

The PGA run their training programmes from the prestigious Belfry golf course near Birmingham.

Odemwingie will embark on the three-year course, which includes modules in industry skills, golf coaching and sports science.

In order to get on the course, golfers must have a playing handicap of less than 4.4, and anyone with a handicap of over 3.5 must take a playing ability test.
