Former Bristol City and West Brom target 'undergoing medical' at Nottingham Forest

Lyle Taylor's seemingly endless transfer saga looks to be coming to close with the striker undergoing a medical at Nottingham Forest, according to a report.

Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke claims the 30-year-old is poised to complete a move to the City Ground following his release at Charlton Athletic which has been mired in controversy.

Taylor refused to play for the Addicks after the restart to avoid jeopardising any potential move away from The Valley with his contract expiring on June 30.

Charlton had rejected bids for the former AFC Wimbledon frontman in January for Taylor, as they were willing to take the financial gamble in order for him to play and preserve their Championship status.

Bristol City and West Brom were among the clubs who made an enquiry for Taylor in the winter window but when learning of Charlton's £3m+ valuation for a player on an expiring contract, instead turned their attention to Nahki Wells.

Taylor's expected arrival at Forest will end the club's long search for a central striker, having relied too much on the goals of Lewis Grabban in what proved to be a unsuccessful 2019/20 season.

Forest fell out of the play-off places on the final day of the campaign and only Millwall (57) scored fewer goals than their 58 among the top-half teams in the Championship. Grabban contributed 20 of them, 34%.

Taylor marked his first season in the second tier with 11 goals in 22 appearances for relegated Charlton - one every 145 minutes.
