Former Bristol City and Swansea City star Lee Trundle rolls back the years with incredible hat-trick

He may be 43, but Lee Trundle once again offered proof over the weekend that he has not lost the footballing ability that made him a hero to so many.

The former Bristol City star, who spent three years at the Robins towards the end of his professional career, was turning out in the Wales Veterans League for Trefelin BGC against Nelson Cavaliers, and netted a superb hat-trick in a 9-0 victory.

His first goal saw the former City striker run from deep and beat five players before firing into the corner of the goal, showing the sort of skills that endeared him to football fans across the country.

Trundle became a cult hero among football fans thanks to his silky skills, mostly with Swansea City before he moved to City in 2007.

Indeed, Trundle's showboating antics saw him regularly feature on Soccer AM, launching him into national consciousness.

Yet, with 78 goals in 146 appearances in his initial spell at the Swans, he was also a lethal finisher, and the Liverpool-born forward demonstrated this with a fine striker to clinch his hat-trick, unleashing an unstoppable drive from the touchline into the top corner of the goal.

Whilst his time at City was less prolific, with just seven goals to show for it, he still made over 50 league appearances for the club and was instrumental in the side which reached the 2008 play-off final, before loan spells at Leeds United and back at Swansea.

After his time at City came to an end, he moved to Wales and signed for Neath before surprisingly returning to League One for a brief stint with Preston North End.

After injury curtailed his time at Deepdale, Trundle opted to retire from football in 2013 following stints at Chester and Marine.

Yet the striker dusted off his boots to return non-league football in Wales in 2016, alongside coaching young players at Swansea, where he is also a club ambassador.

His latest exploits have once again grabbed the attention of social media, with Trundle revealing he was returning from injury in the game.

Former Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis was quick to label Trundle a legend after seeing the goals, with other Twitter users calling for the striker to be signed up to Socceraid.
