Former Bristol charity shop to reopen as convenience store

A former charity shop in Bristol is reopening as a new convenience store.

The mini supermarket is opening in Crow Lane, Henbury in the unit formerly home to Changing Lives, which closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Builders are currently at the site, which was a Lloyds Pharmacy before becoming a charity shop, carrying out the transformation.

A builder told a Bristol Live reporter the shop will also double up as a branch of the Post Office, however this has not yet been confirmed.

Shop owner Haval Abdulla has applied to Bristol City Council for an alcohol licence.

The application reads: "The premises will be a local general convenience store selling a variety of goods and alcohol.

"The applicant has applied for the sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises: Monday - Sunday from 08:00 - 22:00."

Changing Lives announced the closure of its Henbury shop in a blog post.

David Tomlinson, chair of trustees, wrote: "Covid-19 has changed the world immeasurably. And we know we’re not alone in feeling the effects of this pandemic.

"It’s with a heavy heart that we are scaling down our retail operation, closing our Weston-super-Mare and Henbury stores to focus our efforts on delivering our transformative work through one central community hub in Clevedon."

It is not known when the new food shop, which will be located at 163 - 165 Crow Ln, Henbury, Bristol BS10 7DR, will open.
