Former Boots employee recalls 'funniest' request she still remembers years later

When you work in retail, you know to expect all sorts of weird and wonderful customer requests. Regardless, it is important to be kind to the customer, no matter how much you might want to laugh during any unusual interactions.

But that doesn't mean those encounters won't stick with you - and delight you when you remember them at a later date.

One former Boots worker who still gets a kick out of her time on the shop floor has shared her 'funniest story' from her time working for the retailer, and it's not hard to see why it is memorable.

For the worker named Dani, one conversation from the beginning of the pandemic is etched into her brain.

As she explained in a post to TikTok as @danielle.bethany2411, she accidentally ended up in a shouting match with a customer looking to purchase an intimate product.

"It was the start of the pandemic, so there were hardly any customers in. It was mostly the workers," her story began. "This little old lady, she must have been about 80 I reckon, came in with her little walking stick hobbling along.

"Her husband who must have been about the same age was walking slowly behind her, and she asked me a question."

However, the employee struggled to understand what she was being asked. "But because we were wearing masks at this point, I couldn't really hear what she was saying," Dani explained.

She continued: "So she said it louder - and she basically ended up screaming at me.

"Not like mean screaming just like speaking really loudly because I just could not understand it."

At this point, Dani's mum, who also worked in the store, came over to offer assistance. "So she says it one more time at the top of her lungs and it clicks what she's asking me, as my mum's standing there as well.

"She's saying, 'I'm looking for the gel that makes your willy go hard,'" Dani recalled.

Thankfully, she was able to direct the customer once she understood her request, and they both went on their way.

"I just directed her to the pharmacy," her video concluded. "The fact that this like 80-year-old woman came in with her husband asking for Viagra essentially and then like screaming at me because I couldn't understand it. Get it grandma!"
