Former Bolton Wanderers, Wolves and Cardiff striker set for surprise India transfer - reports

Former Bolton Wanderers star Adam Le Fondre is set to be on the move after a successful two years in Australia.

The 33-year-old won two A-League titles in as many years with Sydney FC but he will now move on to pastures new, according to The Bridge.

Le Fondre claimed the second of his A-League titles on Sunday with a win over Melbourne City in the Grand Final, but just days later it seems he has decided to call it a day down-under.

The former Trotters striker had an option to extend his deal, which expired this summer, but he has chosen a move to India instead to join Mumbai City.

Le Fondre had been in talks with Indian clubs throughout the summer, according to The Bridge, but he has chosen Mumbai as his next destination, following in the footsteps of Diego Forlan and Nicolas Anelka.

Bolton fan favourite Le Fondre scored 21 goals in 75 games across two loan spells and as a permanent signing between 2015 and 2018,

The striker spent three years at Reading between 2011 and 2014, scoring 39 times in 104 league games, winning the Championship title during that time.

His spell with the Royals followed successful spells with the likes of Rochdale and Rotherham United.

But things seemed to go downhill when he joined Cardiff City for more than £2m in 2014, scoring just three times in 23 games for the Welsh side who loaned him out four times during his time across the bridge.

Le Fondre later moved to Bolton but moved to Australia in 2018 for a fresh start.

He now looks set to head to India after a successful two years with Sydney FC, winning two league titles and scoring 39 goals in 57 league games.
