Former Bolton Wanderers trialist and ex-Liverpool and Rangers man Charlie Adam joins new club

Former Bolton Wanderers trialist Charlie Adam has joined old club Dundee.

The veteran midfielder trained with Wanderers over the summer following his release by Championship club Reading.

Former Blackpool team mate and Bolton boss Ian Evatt allowed the 34-year-old to train when he was a free agent.

But he has now signed for hometown club Dundee on a two-year deal.

The Scottish club said in a statement: "Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Charlie Adam on a two-year deal.

"26 time Scotland cap Charlie has has an illustrious career playing at the very top level down south but has never hidden his love for the club.

"He previously pulled on the Dundee shirt on two occasions, in testimonials for Julian Speroni and current assistant manager Dave Mackay.

"Negotiations surrounding the deal have gone on for a number of weeks but we are delighted to agree a deal that suits all parties.

"For the financial stability of the club we had to stay outwith the financial plan created to help us through the 2020/21 season.

"We were open to the fact that this meant we would have to get creative to make this deal happen and we would like to place on record our thanks to three current club sponsors, without whom it would not have been possible."

Adam came through the ranks at Dundee as a youngster before moving to Old Firm giants Rangers, and had spells out on loan at Ross County, St Mirren and Blackpool.

He joined the Tangerines permanently in 2009, helping the club win promotion to the Premier League.

He signed for Liverpool in 2011 but spent only one season at Anfield, before moving on to Stoke City the following summer.

He remained with the Potters until being released last summer, and penned a one-year contract with the Royals last summer.
