Former Bolton Wanderers defender Yoan Zouma sends message after completing move to Barrow

Yoan Zouma has thanked Bolton Wanderers for allowing him to play for the 'mythical' club and said he will miss the Trotters faithful singing his name.

The 22-year-old initially joined Wanderers in 2018 for the club's under 23 set-up, before progressing on to the first team.

He made 23 appearances for Bolton last season in all competitions before the 2019/20 campaign was brought to an early conclusion in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Zouma was among the players released by the University of Stadium outfit over the summer.

Until recently, however, the defender had been training with Ian Evatt's side at Lostock and there had been the potential that he could have earned a place back at Wanderers.

But Evatt confirmed last week that Zouma - brother of Chelsea and France defender Kurt - had departed the club, explaining that he did not feel the 22-year-old was better than the other centre halves currently at the club.

Zouma has subsequently signed for Wanderers' League Two rivals and Evatt's former club Barrow.

And now the defender has now taken to social media to thank Wanderers for the 'trust' shown in him and the fans for showing him gratitude and chanting his name.

He has wished the club, which he has described as 'mythical', luck for the future and says he will keep 'only good memories' of his time in BL6.

Taking to Instagram, he posted: "I would like to thank Bolton Wanderers for the trust they have shown in me by giving me the opportunity to sign and defend this mythical club with wonderful fans who have shown me these gratitude by singing my name. I will definitely miss that.

"I will keep only good memories of this wonderful club.

"Thank you to all the staff for making my stay pleasant.

"Good luck for the future Bolton Wanderers."

Zouma could have a swift reunion against his former club, with Wanderers due to play Barrow at Holker Street later this month.
