Former Berghaus boss named new Silentnight chairman

A former boss at the likes of outdoor performance brand Berghaus has become the new chairman of Silentnight.

Richard Cotter has taken on the role at the Lancashire-headquartered company, succeeding Adrian Fawcett who resigned from his position at end of April.

Mr Cotter is also currently the chairman and CEO of Fresh Oxygen Group, a consultancy "focused on delivering rapid performance improvement, significant value creation and sustainable future success for both corporate and individual clients".

He has previously served as chief executive of Snow + Rock Group as well as global brand president of Berghaus.

Before that Mr Cotter was managing director of Brasher Boot Company and also held the same role at Falcon Foodservice Equipment.

A spokesperson for Silentnight, said: "We are delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Cotter as non-executive chairman to Silentnight, the UK’s most trusted sleep brand.

"Richard’s breadth of experience working with category leading brands in retail and other business sectors allows us to build on this position, as we continue to offer and develop even better solutions and services for every style of sleeper."

The appointment comes after Silentnight hit the headlines in August when accountancy giant KPMG was slapped with a fine of £13m by an independent tribunal over serious misconduct in its role in the sale of the bed maker.

KPMG was reprimanded by the Financial Reporting Council over the deal in 2011 which saw the manufacturer acquired by a private equity fund.

One of its former partners, David-Costley Wood, was also fined £500,000 while KPMG was ordered to conduct an independent "root cause" review.
