Former Bengals TE Tyler Kroft injures ankle before debut vs. his old team

The Cincinnati Bengals won’t have to worry about a revenge game from former tight end Tyler Kroft when they line up against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3.

Kroft, who broke his foot in May and worked his way back, looked poised to make his season debut against his former team before suffering a setback Thursday.

Sean McDermott told reporters about the injury, though the severity remains an unknown.

Kroft joined the Bills this offseason after four years in Cincinnati. The Bengals grabbed him in the third round of the 2015 draft and he ended his tenure with 67 catches, 661 yards and eight scores over 51 games.

Continued re-ups with Tyler Eifert, a strong development from C. J. Uzomah and the new staff grabbing Drew Sample in the second round phased Kroft out of the plans.

Given the Bengals’ problems with tight ends over the years, Kroft figured to be on track for a good showing.
