Former Bengals DE Jonathan Fanene charged with 8 felonies, 5 misdemeanors

Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Jonathan Fanene has been charged with eight felonies and five misdemeanors in the district court of American Samoa, a U.S. territory in the South Pacific.

Fili Sagapolutele of the Associated Press reported on the filed court documents:

Fanene has been charged in the district court of American Samoa with eight felonies, including kidnapping and assault, and five misdemeanors. He has been released on $100,000 bail and will appear in court next week.

Fanene allegedly assaulted his wife and sister with a golf club and broom handle and has lost his job as the director of the American Samoa Department of Youth and Women’s Affairs. Court documents indicate allegations of abuse dating back to 2009, including the use of a revolver.

Fanene, 37, is a native of American Samoa. He was a seventh-round pick by the Bengals in 2005 and played for them for seven seasons.
