Former Bengals CB Johnathan Joseph is back in free agency

The Houston Texans and veteran corner Johnathan Joseph announced Wednesday that the parties have mutually agreed he’ll enter free agency.

Joseph, 35, spent the last nine seasons in Houston, originally entering the league with the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round back in 2006.

Call it an incredibly impressive career so far for Joseph. He still graded at 64.0 at Pro Football Focus last year and only let up two touchdowns on 78 targets.

Joseph’s foray into free agency comes at an interesting time as there is speculation as to whether the Bengals will cut Dre Kirkpatrick and whether the team will even bother to re-sign Darqueze Dennard.

Which isn’t to say the Bengals will have an interest in a reunion — the team and Joseph apparently weren’t on the best of terms.

But if we’re talking cheaper veteran corners who can come in and provide some quality play during a potential transitional year for the unit? Joseph certainly fits that mold.
