Report: Former Bears RB Cedric Benson dies in motorcycle accident

Former Bears running back Cedric Benson was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday night, according to the Austin American-Statesman. He was 36 years old.

Benson was the Bears’ fourth overall pick out of Texas in 2005. His brother shared the news of his passing on Facebook on Sunday morning.

During Benson’s time in Chicago, he had 420 carries for 1,593 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was a member of the NFC North champion team in 2006 that lost to the Colts in Super Bowl XLI.

Benson played three seasons with the Bears from 2005-2007. He also played with the Bengals (2008-2011) and Packers (2012).

At Texas, he won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back in 2004. He rushed for 5,540 yards in college, which ranks 10th in Division I history.
