Former Bears kicker Elliott Fry signed by Ravens

One week after the Chicago Bears released Elliott Fry, the former AAF kicker has signed with the Baltimore Ravens.

While the Ravens obviously aren’t in the hunt for a starting kicker, they did replace backup kicker Kaare Vedvik, who was traded to the Minnesota Vikings last week for a fifth-round pick.

In his Vikings debut, Vedvik missed two field goals, from 43 and 54 yards.

Fry was one of the final two Bears kickers on the roster during a kicker competition that spanned from rookie minicamp and into the preseason.

The other kicker in that competition, Eddy Pineiro, is the last kicker standing in Chicago, at least for now. Although, Pineiro showed that he could be the kicker the Bears need in his first outing as Chicago’s only kicker.

Pineiro connected on both of his field goals on Saturday night against the Colts, including a 58-yarder right down the middle, as well as all three of his extra points. Pineiro’s leg strength and swagger were certainly on display.

If Pineiro has similar success in the Bears’ preseason finale against the Titans on Thursday, he might just be the Bears’ kicker when the Bears kickoff the regular season against the Packers on Sept. 5.
