Former Bears K Cody Parkey joins Browns, will kick Thursday vs. Bengals: report

Parkey signed a four-year deal with the Bears in 2018, but made just 76.7 percent of his field goals and had one blocked at the end of a playoff game against the Eagles. | AP Photos

Former Bears kicker Cody Parkey, infamous in Chicago for the Double Doink, will get another opportunity this week. The Browns will add Parkey from their practice squad, NFL Network reported, and give him a shot at securing the job long term.

He will make his 2020 debut in the Browns’ game Thursday night against the Bengals.

Browns kicker Austin Seibert missed a 40-yard field goal and an extra point in their opener, so this is strictly performance-based. Parkey got a shot as an injury fill-in with the Titans last season, but that was clearly a temporary opportunity from the start.

Parkey made 76.7 percent of his field goals for the Bears after signing a four-year, $15 million contract in 2018. That season ended with his game-winning try against the Eagles getting blocked and bouncing off both goal posts.

Parkey, 28, hit 86.4 percent of his field goals before joining the Bears and made the Pro Bowl for the Eagles in 2014.
