The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers to advance to Super Bowl LIV, where they’ll face the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 2 in Miami.
But San Francisco did so in large part due to the impressive performances of two former Chicago Bears players.
Running back Raheem Mostert and kicker Robbie Gould stole the show, and they were responsible for all 37 of San Francisco’s points against Green Bay.
Bears fans know firsthand the accuracy and consistency of Gould, who connected on all three of his field goal attempts, including a 54-yarder, and all four extra points.
But this game was all about the emergence of Mostert, who had a monster game with 220 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Mostert was an undrafted free agent who bounced around six teams before landing with the 49ers in 2016.
One of those teams were the Bears, who signed Mostert to their practice squad in September 2016. He was soon promoted to the active roster, where he appeared in two games for Chicago. Mostert was later waived on Oct. 3, 2016 and re-signed to the practice squad before being released a second time on Nov. 24, 2016.
But the Bears shouldn’t feel bad. They weren’t the only ones that passed on Mostert.
