Former Bears assistants under Marc Trestman moving up coaching ranks

The Chicago Bears crashed and burned with Marc Trestman running the team from 2013 to 2014.

But it turns out the former head coach had some of the right pieces in place underneath him.

Many of the assistant coaches from that Bears staff have moved on to bigger and better opportunities in the NFL and college football.

Special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2015, while wide receivers coach Mike Groh earned a ring with the Philadelphia Eagles last year and is now their offensive coordinator.

Former Bears defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni is now the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, and quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh is the offensive coordinator in Washington.

Offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer is now the offensive line coach for the Super Bowl-bound Los Angeles Rams along with former Bears running backs coach Skip Peete.

Former defensive coordinator Mel Tucker is taking over as the head coach at the University of Colorado, and defensive backs coach Jon Hoke is the new defensive coordinator at Maryland.

Even Trestman himself went on to win another Grey Cup in the Canadian Football League, although he was just fired by the Toronto Argonauts after a 4-14 season.

His tenure in Chicago certainly failed to meet expectations, but the group of assistants he assembled appear to be a talented bunch, something you can’t usually say about failed head coaches.
