Former BBC Watchdog presenter Lynn Faulds Wood has died aged 72

Former BBC Watchdog presenter Lynn Faulds Wood has died at the age of 72.

The Scottish television presenter and journalist was best known for her time on the BBC consumer show from 1985 until 1993 alongside John Stapleton.

Lynn, who also worked on BBC's Breakfast Time before later joining ITV's GMTV, was also a cancer campaigner having survived advanced bowel cancer while a presenter of Watchdog.

Her family announced the sad news of her death on Friday (April 24) and said her husband and son were at her bedside.

A statement from her family said: "Having suffered a massive stroke last night and a subsequent bleed on the brain, presenter and journalist Lynn Faulds Wood passed away peacefully at 12 noon today with her husband John Stapleton and son Nick at her bedside."

Dame Esther Rantzen has been one of the first to pay tribute.

She said: "I have known Lynn for many years. We made a series together which was huge fun but also very hard hitting because she was such an impressive and courageous consumer journalist.

"She fought for the rights of vulnerable people doggedly and determinedly and she is a huge loss to journalism and to her friends and family. We are all devastated at this news."
