Former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac at Goodison Park amid Everton vacancy

Former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac is at Goodison Park for Everton's match against Chelsea .

Kovac was sacked by Bayern earlier this season and is yet to land a new job with Hansi Flick in caretaker charge at the Allianz Arena.

Everton are on the lookout for a new boss after sacking Marco Silva following Wednesday night's 5-2 drubbing by Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.

The Toffees were in the relegation zone going into the match against Frank Lampard's side but were buoyed by an early goal from Richarlison and a strike from Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the break.

Club legend Duncan Ferguson has been appointed interim boss while Everton appoint a permanent successor to Silva.

Former boss David Moyes and current Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira are among the favourites to land the job - but Kovac's appearance has led to speculation he could be next in the Goodison dugout.

Croatian Kovac had a 19-year playing career, winning the Bundesliga with Bayern in 2002-03 having twice finished as a runner-up with Bayer Leverkusen in the 1990s.

He won 83 caps for his country and took charge of Croatia's Under-21s in 2012 after leaving his role as Red Bull Salzburg academy boss the previous year.

Kovac then graduated to become manager of Croatia's senior side in 2013 before managing Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern.
