Former Barcelona youngster Takefusa Kubo dreaming of 'great' Real Madrid future: 'I won't waste my chance'

Former Barcelona youngster Takefusa Kubo believes he has a big future in the first team at Real Madrid.

The Japanese attacker was at La Masia as a youth player, but left the Catalan club following their Fifa transfer ban for irregularities in the signing of young players and after a spell at FC Tokyo, he signed for Los Blancos last year.

Kubo impressed for Madrid in pre-season, but the 18-year-old was sent on loan to Mallorca for the 2019-20 campaign and he faces a battle in the coming years to occupy one of the coveted attacking spaces at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"I'm very grateful to Barcelona and also to FC Tokyo for making me welcome after the ban," he told AS.

"After turning 18, I had the chance to chose a team and I chose Real Madrid because of their interest in me. I'm very grateful. And now I'm a big Madrid fan."

Asked what his dream is, he said: "To be a great player and to do great things at Real Madrid. Also for Japan.

"It all depends on me and I will have a place at Real Madrid. I'm going to keep working and I'll wait for my opportunity.

"When it arrives, I won't waste it."
